Statement of Principles

The Giles Government has signed a new set of principles with Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) that hopes reduce their reporting burden and free them up to concentrate on helping Territorians…….

“I want to say how much I admire the work these Non-Government Organisations do in providing services and support to Territorians in need,” Chief Minister Adam Giles said.

“It was a pleasure to host this morning’s meeting of NGOs at Parliament House and continue our conversation with them about working in partnership with Government.

“NGOs play a vital role in our community and I know they would rather be reaching people at the grass roots level than wasting time with unnecessary administration.

“That’s why our new Statement of Principles makes it clear that the Government does not support paperwork for paperwork’s sake and reporting should be focused on measuring outcomes not just blindly complying with process.”

This new Statement of Principles will underpin how NGOs and Territory Government agencies work together to support Territorians in policy, program design and service delivery.

“It has been drawn up after consultation with the sector and is an important milestone in strengthening the relationship between the Territory Government and NGOs,” Mr Giles said.

The new Statement of Principles has been warmly welcomed by the sector including the Northern Territory Council of Social Service and Aboriginal Peak Organisations NT.

“NTCOSS welcomes the launch of the Statement of Principles. This is an opportunity to continue to improve the relationships between the NTG and the NGO sector and we are pleased the Chief Minister has made this commitment,” Wendy Morton, Executive Director NTCOSS said.

“This is a historic moment to have a formal agreement between the Northern Territory Government with the non-government community services sector to form a partnership to work together to provide high quality culturally appropriate services for Territorians,” APONT CEO Priscilla Collins said.
