Sector Sustainability

All social and community sector services should be adequately resourced.

All social and community sector services should be adequately resourced.

The community and social service sector is a significant and essential part of the NT’s economic and social fabric. It is a sector defined by a diverse range of organisations which vary by size, complexity and mission. The sector operates across a full range of policy areas—from health, education and human services to sports, the arts and culture, and the environment.

A strong, sustainable community sector is critical to ending disadvantage and achieving social and economic wellbeing for all Territorians. However, community services have experienced deep funding cuts and are struggling to help everyone who needs their support. The NT Government must reform funding models and invest in a skilled, supported workforce that can meet the Territory’s unique challenges.

NTCOSS calls for reforms to strengthen the community services sector, including:

  • Fair, consistent, and long-term funding models.
  • Investment in workforce development and training.
