Beside You in Grief Training

Thursday 25 August @ 8:30 am - Friday 26 August @ 4:00 pm

The death of a child is frequently called the ultimate tragedy. Nothing can be more devastating. If you are the one that is there at the time of the loss (or even much later) then you will want to have the skills to support the many issues that make bereavement particularly difficult.

Your role maybe as a nurse, midwife, a social worker, a close friend, or family member. The relationship between parents and their children is among the most intense that we experience in life.
AMBER NT is providing upskill training and support in Darwin for those who are directly engaged in the care of those parents who are experiencing child loss from conception to 18 years of age.

It is said that coping with the death and loss of a child (at any stage of the life process) requires some of the hardest work that we will ever have to do. The loss of a child impacts across each circle of influence, siblings, grandparents, stepparents, friends to name just a few.

Our two-day program, Beside You in Grief, is designed specifically to increase your awareness of the unique and individual challenges that are upon the parents and family during this time.

The program provides you with the confidence to support, suggest and guide. Your personal care is important too, so our program will teach you how to care for yourself while you care for others.
Our program is activity based so you will put into action immediately what you learn using the theory of adult learning.

With so much to cover we will begin by examining the intimacy of child loss and the emotions of the parents, their different behavioural styles, and responses.

Understanding that the parent’s response is connected to their individual values and beliefs, you will gain an understanding of what is important to the parents and that it may be vastly different from each other and the physical place they are located at.

You will learn techniques for empathetic actions, a highlight of the program is the advanced communication methods that you will want to use as your confidence increases in effective communication.

Our program is designed with action learning techniques, so on day one you will learn skills that will fill your toolbox and on day two you will commence using them as we present through video courageous stories from parents who have travelled this journey.

You will consolidate your learnings that will provide you with connection to us here at AMBER NT, and to your local network. You will take home with you a manual full of great content, methods and two textbooks for further reading.

The program has been designed and will be delivered by Annette Gillanders (founder of Biznorth Pty Ltd) who has qualifications in adult education, human resources, coaching and bereavement support. Energetic, engaging and a little funny we are sure you will enjoy Annette’s presentation of this wonderful program.
