Parentline provides free counselling and support to parents and carers of children living in the Northern Territory.

Parentline offers confidential phone and WebChat counselling and support for parents and carers and offers a safety-net for families by providing support when it’s most needed. This includes after hours, weekends, where families may feel isolated and where local services are unavailable.

Whether it’s support for challenging behaviour, relationship with children, co-parenting guidance or mental health help, Parentline is here.

Kids do better when their parents feel supported.

GIVIT Listed Ltd connects those who have with those who need, in a safe and private way. Through the GIVIT website, trusted Australian organisations are able to request exactly what is needed by their clients. These requests are listed here, where everyday Australians can donate in response. Alternatively, donors can pledge items for donation into our online warehouse which is a private online portal where registered organisations can see and reserve what’s available.

When a need is matched to a donation, the GIVIT portal sends an email to exchange contact details between the donor and the organisation where they can both liaise to arrange a delivery option. Once the charity receives the item, it is privately passed onto the recipient. The donor and recipient never meet as, above all, GIVIT aims to preserve the dignity and privacy of people accessing support.

Child Wise is a social enterprise that provides child safety training, consultancy and accreditation services to organisations where children and young people spend time. Our purpose is to build the capacity of management, staff and volunteers to keep children safe in their care according to the highest standards. Established in 1991, Child Wise has over 25 years of experience specialising in preventing, and responding to, child abuse. In Australia, Child Wise pioneered the use of Child Safety Standards as a best practice model based on the principles of capacity building and prevention, that aim to create and maintain a culture where child safety is front of mind. We work with organisations of all sizes, across a range of different industries to achieve our mission.

COTA NT is the peak body for seniors in the Northern Territory advocating on their behalf and dedicated to promoting their well-being since 1969.

Now in its 50th year, COTA NT provides services, support and information including NT Seniors Card, Age Care Navigators, Seniors Month activities, multicultural programs and events including Seniors Expo

We are a non for profit organisation representing the veteran community of the Northern Territory

Opening: 3rd Sunday of every month – Monthly meetings

Friday mornings Advocacy services 10am-12pm

Our core values are to:

  • promote veterans and families health and well-being

  • provide compensation and welfare Advocates who work in the Community of Practise

  • represent Territory veterans at NT Government level

  • support local schools and other community groups

We conduct regular monthly meetings at Reg Hillier House where issues important to Veterans, serving & ex-serving members of the ADF and their families are discussed.

We also have BBQ get-togethers to invite friends and family to have an afternoon out and a bit of a yarn with fellow vets.

We welcome veteran visitors from interstate to all of our meetings and events.

History

Initially VVAA  (Vietnam Veterans) NT Rural Sub Branch, incorporated in 2001, our priority was to provide support and assistance to the Vietnam veteran community.

Over the course of time we recognised the need to assist younger veterans and their families and changed the VVAA NT Sub Branch constitution to allow membership to all veterans.

As a reflection of this, members felt that a name change would reflect the nature of our membership, so in late 2017 we became Veterans Australia NT. The history of beginning as a Vietnam veterans group will always be valued and remembered.

VANT provides an advocacy services including welfare and compensation assistance.

Peak Body

The peak consumer organisation for all Territorians with disabilities and for their families or carers. The organisation works to promote public awareness of disability issues, liaises with government on behalf of people with disabilities and provides advice on available services.

Keep Australia Beautiful NT promotes, supports and recognises the efforts of the Territorians and their communities through projects that improve living conditions and sustainability by encouraging key community stakeholders to work collaboratively. KABC(NT) puts particular emphasis on litter reduction and waste management in remote communities.

HeartKids is the compass to help navigate the lifetime journey of the 64,000 Australian children, teens and adults affected by congenital heart disease.  Our aim is to help them -and their families – to lead the most fulfilling life possible and to reach their personal goals.

We are the voice for all people impacted by congenital heart disease – the largest cause of infant death in Australia.

Our work is focused on our four pillars of Advocacy, Information, Research and Support.

The national industry association for disability services in the Northern Territory. NDS assists members to operate efficient and effective services and to meet relevant industry & government standards through the provision of information and advice, networking opportunities and access to corporate support.

AADANT is the peak body for Alcohol and Other Drugs in the Northern Territory.

As an independent, membership-driven, not-for-profit association, we work with our members to support and strengthen AOD service delivery for people who experience harmful substance use in the NT.

Our mission is to build and maintain a strong, sustainable and culturally diverse Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) sector that works together to reduce alcohol and other drug related harm across the Northern Territory.

Aboriginal Peak Organisations Alliance

An alliance comprising the Central Land Council (CLC), Northern Land Council (NLC), and the Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance of the Northern Territory (AMSANT).

The alliance works towards providing an effective response to key issues affecting Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory;

  • advocates practical policy solutions to government;
  • increases Aboriginal involvement in policy development & implementation;
  • expands opportunities for community control; and
  • strengthens networks between Aboriginal organisations in the Northern Territory.

GROW Support Group

Provides self-help and support groups for adults with mental health or emotional problems. Groups follow a structured program and provide support for participants in a positive and non-threatening setting. GROW groups are voluntary, anonymous, confidential and non-denominational.

National Joblink (NJL) is a premier registered training organisation which has served the Tasmanian Community for the past 25 years and more recently over the past several years we have expanded our services to deliver training throughout Queensland and the Northern Territory.  We are a not-for-profit organisation that is owned by the community. 

NJL delivers accredited and non-accredited Training Programs throughout the NT and Australia.  With a focus on remote communities.  We design programs to tailor activities and participants needs.

NAPCAN’s programs promote every child’s right to be safe and addresses the underlying issues of child abuse and neglect.

NAPCAN’s activities include the following:

  • Supporting child-friendly & child-safe practices in organisations, businesses and communities to promote the wellbeing & welfare of children & their families.
  • Building community and school capacity in order to support young people in developing respectful relationships.
  • Support, advocacy and development of resources including brochures, posters and audiovisual materials around child safety and wellbeing.
  • Coordination of the National Child Protection Week in September and
  • Coordination of Children’s Week in October.

Community Workshops

Check the NAPCAN website Training Calendar for available workshops otherwise contact NAPCAN for a quote. All workshops can be customised to suit urban, rural and remote communities.

Mandatory Reporting and Child Abuse Prevention

  • This workshop is designed to ensure that staff, volunteers and community members understand their mandatory-reporting legal & ethical obligations as well as increasing confidence in knowing when & where to report abuse or neglect.
  • Participants learn about indicators of harm as well as comprehensive assessment of risk and protective factors.
  • Discussions include practical strategies to reduce the risk of harm to children in families, organisations and communities.
  • The workshop can be individually tailored to urban and remote participants.
  • Workshops are available at no cost to organisations funded by Dept. of Children and Families and are available in Darwin and Alice Springs every 6 months.
  • Advanced bookings are essential.

Tools & Resources for Engaging Vulnerable Children & Families

  • This is a fun & interactive workshop that introduces a wide range of local, national and international child abuse prevention tools and resources for working with vulnerable children and families.
  • Through practical application, participants gain confidence & competence in using the resources in their work places.
  • The workshop can be tailored to urban and remote community services and for those working with newly arrived migrant or refugee families.

Child-Safe Organisations

  • This workshop provides information, research and practical resources to support agencies to improve their work practices with children and young people
  • Policies, protocols and processes are identified to assist agencies to assess, evaluate and introduce child-friendly and child-safe practices.
  • Organisations have an opportunity to identify risk and protective factors within their own practices and within their organisation
  • NAPCAN staff can review current child protection and mandatory reporting policies
  • Sample policies are made available for all participating agencies.

Respectful Relationships Programs – including Love Bites (Violence Prevention Programs)

NAPCAN delivers training in respectful relationships programs for children and young people from 3 to 17.

  • All Children Being Safe – Protective Behaviours program for 3 – 6 years (Key Theme: Community Responsibility for child safety; Safe people; Safe places; Safe/Unsafe feelings)
  • Growing Respect 7 – 12 years (Key Themes: Managing feelings and behaviours; Problem Solving in friendships; Listening skills; Managing fights / arguments; Asking for Help
  • #friends 11 – 13 years (Key Themes: Relationships and social media; Power in relationships; Jealousy; Communication)
  • Love Bites Junior 12 – 15 (Key Themes: Popularity and power; Power and control in relationships; Bullying, Jealousy; Homophobia; Sex, love and control; breaking up; Supporting friends.
  • Love Bites 15 – 17 (Key Themes: Relationship violence and sexual assault; Respectful vs abusive behaviour; Power and control; Myths; Consent; Being a bystander

Individual Client Service Provides information, advice and appropriate referral relating to workplace issues for Northern Territory women. Longer term casework assistance and support are also available. Interpreters can be arranged.

Provides information for women about their legal rights in the workplace; awards & agreements; workers’ compensation and health & safety; work & family issues; discrimination and harassment in the workplace; workplace bullying; dismissal; and other issues of concern for women in the workforce.
