The organisation provides counselling and other support services in Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, Tiwi, Wadeye, Nauiyu, Jabiru, Maningrida, Nhulunbuy, Yirrkala, Ltyentye Apurte, Finke, Titjikala, Indulkana and Alekarenge.

The Milikapiti Safe House offers support for individuals and families who are experiencing domestic and family violence.

The Milikapiti Safe House is a 24 hour service

Crisis accommodation Gove provides the highest of client care, confidentiality and support to all women and children experiencing domestic or family violence in an environment that is non-discriminatory, participatory, and culturally respectful.

The service is committed to promoting the health, wellbeing, and safety of all our clients and their families. A team of Support Workers and a Family & Children Support Worker provide 24/7 assistance.

Providing education and resources relating to domestic or family violence and involvement in community development activities.

Provision of support services to women and children who are at risk of or are experiencing domestic or family violence. Advocacy, information, education, referrals to empower women & their families towards self care, and self resilience in community life.’

Domestic Violence Legal Service, Alice Springs

CAWLS provides a drop-in Domestic Violence Advice clinic five days a week for women who are seeking legal advice or support in relation to domestic violence.

Clinic appointments are available on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for other legal matters including family law and civil law matters.

CatholicCare NT is committed to the safety of women and children. A significant part of this is addressing the behaviour of men who perpetrate violence in their relationships. The CatholicCare NT Men’s Behaviour Change Program is a 24 session program that works with men to address their:

  • violent and
  • controlling behaviour
  • hold them to account
  • to take responsibility for their abuse
  • To take responsibility for their behaviour

CatholicCare NT work with men who perpetrate violence because everybody is entitled to the opportunity to change their behaviour. If a program participant achieves his goals, the lives of others also become changed.

Melaleuca Refugee Centre Torture Trauma Survivors Service of the NT incorporated is a community-controlled, not-for-profit Association operating out of Darwin. Melaleuca Refugee Centre provided an environment for resettlement and healing of refugee survivors of torture and trauma, their families and communities through confidential, high quality and holistic services.

Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA) provides a range of support for women and children experiencing domestic and family violence. The services include emergency accommodation, outreach support, court support and counselling.

Outreach Support

Provides outreach support for women and their children escaping domestic violence.

Supported Refuge Accommodation

Supported accommodation is available for women and their children escaping domestic violence. Counselling, assistance in gaining access to financial supportand referral to health and long-term housing services are also A children’s support worker is available. Twenty-four-hour contact is available.

What is the Keeping Women Safe in Their Home program? 

Keeping Women Safe in Their Home is a program designed to undertake risk assessment, safety planning and security upgrades for women and children experiencing domestic and family violence so that they can stay in their own homes, or a home of their choice, where it is safe to do so. The program aims to achieve positive outcomes for families, women and their children to improve safety, well-being and reduce violence against women and their children.

What sort of services can we provide? 

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, including the option for improved safety of their home as a response of domestic violence
  • Undertake safety planning, property audits and technology risk assessments as part of a comprehensive case management plan
  • Implement security upgrades in line with the risk assessment to secure the home
  • Provide information, support and referrals to relevant service providers

Ruby Gaea provides specialist post-initial trauma sexual assault counselling, education and training service.  

Sexual Assault Counselling

Free & confidential counselling for women and children who have been affected by sexual violence. This includes sexual assault as a result of family or domestic violence. Medical and legal support is provided.

Support groups for survivors and their relatives are available. Workshops for practitioners and the general community; training lectures in the community on sexual violence; and a lending library of books, videos and articles on rape and related issues are also available.

Sexual Assault Prevention

Provides education in sexual assault prevention for primary school and secondary-school students.

A lending library of DVDs and articles on sexual assault and related issues is available.

Counselling

Counselling is available for indigenous women and children. Support and referral are also provided for those experiencing domestic violence. After-hours contact is available.

Crisis accommodation is available for homeless indigenous women & children and for those escaping domestic violence and sexual assault. After-hours contact is available.

Wurli Community Services

Wurli provides a range of community services to Aboriginal people living in Katherine and 40 km radius.

Clients can ‘walk in’ at any time during operating hours, but if clients prefer, the clinic also operates an appointment system for current clients.

Access to all clinical services is improved by our transport service, which can collect clients from anywhere within 40 kilometres of Katherine. Wurli will send out reminder letters and messages to you and family when due for an appointment or other type of follow up care.

Wellbeing Unit

The Wellbeing unit is located at 25 Third Street (above Wurli main clinic) and starts from a position of cultural sensitivity and respect to deliver individualised, holistic intervention, treatment and management services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People of the Katherine Region.

The unit also delivers community engagement and development activities that promote living socially and emotionally healthy lifestyle.

StrongBala Justice Support Program

The StrongBala Justice Program aims to give Indigenous men regular access to culturally appropriate holistic health, justice and alcohol and other drugs (AOD) services as well as providing educational sessions through a Personal Development Program (PDP).  Referrals to internal and external health providers and other agencies are provided as required.

Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Program

Wurli’s Alcohol & Other Drugs service provides a holistic and culturally competent drug and alcohol counselling service for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of the Katherine region.

AOD services are provided to assist in the reduction of the harmful impacts that Alcohol and other Drug misuse/ abuse has on other individuals and family safety, community well-being, as well as contributing towards the health outcomes for individual clients.

Strong Indigenous Families (SIF)

Wurli’s Strong Indigenous Families (SIF) Program aims to address the behaviours that lead to family and domestic violence to improve the safety of women and their children.

Through the delivery of therapeutic services for children and case management services for the family, SIF works towards breaking the inter-generational cycle of family and domestic violence and the removal of children from families.

  • A range of therapeutic services and activities targeted at children and family units
  • Case management services including assistance with navigating services and advocacy support

Katherine Individual Support Program (KISP)

The Katherine Individual Support Program (KISP) delivers case management and outreach services to people living rough in the Katherine community living areas and town camps.

The Program aims to improve health outcomes and increase the quality of life experienced by KISP clients. This program operates via an outreach model.

Domestic Violence Community Education Service

Provides training & resource support relating to domestic or family violence for government & non-government agencies. Dawn House  participates in community development activities that work to reduce the incidence of domestic and family violence.

Short-term accommodation is available for women and their children in crisis or escaping domestic violence.

Women’s & Children’s Crisis Accommodation, Outreach, Domestic Violence Counselling & Education

Short-term safe accommodation for women and their children escaping domestic violence, at risk of violence or in crisis. Services include support, counselling, advocacy, outreach, emergency relief and referral. A children’s worker is available. Twenty-four-hour, seven-day-a-week access is available.

Community education is also provided.

Yuendumu Women’s Centre (YWCAC) is a meeting place, a resource centre and provider of advocacy services for the women of Yuendumu and their families.
