The organisation provides counselling and other support services in Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, Tiwi, Wadeye, Nauiyu, Jabiru, Maningrida, Nhulunbuy, Yirrkala, Ltyentye Apurte, Finke, Titjikala, Indulkana and Ali Curung.

The Nauiyu Safe House operated 24 Hours and provides support for individuals and families who are experiencing domestic and family violence.

NPY Women’s Council Domestic and Family Violence Service (Alice Springs Head Office, services Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands).

NPY Women’s Council’s purpose is to work with the women and their families of the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankuntjatjara region in Central Australia to increase the capacity to lead safe and healthy lives with improved life choices.

Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA) provides a range of support for women and children experiencing domestic and family violence. The services include emergency accommodation, outreach support, court support and counselling.

Provides outreach support for women and their children escaping domestic violence.

Supported Refuge Accommodation

Supported accommodation is available for women and their children escaping domestic violence. Counselling, assistance in gaining access to financial supportand referral to health and long-term housing services are also A children’s support worker is available. Twenty-four-hour contact is available.

Short-term accommodation is available for women and their children in crisis or escaping domestic violence.

Crisis accommodation Gove provides the highest of client care, confidentiality and support to all women and children experiencing domestic or family violence in an environment that is non-discriminatory, participatory, and culturally respectful.

The service is committed to promoting the health, wellbeing, and safety of all our clients and their families. A team of Support Workers and a Family & Children Support Worker provide 24/7 assistance.

Providing education and resources relating to domestic or family violence and involvement in community development activities.

Provision of support services to women and children who are at risk of or are experiencing domestic or family violence. Advocacy, information, education, referrals to empower women & their families towards self care, and self resilience in community life.’

Ruby Gaea provides specialist post-initial trauma sexual assault counselling, education and training service.  

Sexual Assault Counselling

Free & confidential counselling for women and children who have been affected by sexual violence. This includes sexual assault as a result of family or domestic violence. Medical and legal support is provided.

Support groups for survivors and their relatives are available. Workshops for practitioners and the general community; training lectures in the community on sexual violence; and a lending library of books, videos and articles on rape and related issues are also available.

Sexual Assault Prevention

Provides education in sexual assault prevention for primary school and secondary-school students.

A lending library of DVDs and articles on sexual assault and related issues is available.

Women’s & Children’s Crisis Accommodation, Outreach, Domestic Violence Counselling & Education

Short-term safe accommodation for women and their children escaping domestic violence, at risk of violence or in crisis. Services include support, counselling, advocacy, outreach, emergency relief and referral. A children’s worker is available. Twenty-four-hour, seven-day-a-week access is available.

Community education is also provided.

Domestic Violence Legal Service, Tennant Creek

CAWLS provides a drop-in Domestic Violence Advice clinic five days a week for women who are seeking legal advice or support in relation to domestic violence.

Clinic appointments are on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for other legal matters including family law and civil law matters.

Provides training & resource support relating to domestic or family violence for government & non-government agencies. Dawn House  participates in community development activities that work to reduce the incidence of domestic and family violence.

  • Advice and court representation with domestic violence order (DVO) applications including variations and extensions
  • Assist victims in talking with police and understanding the court process
  • Assist victims in monitoring offender’s criminal proceedings and DVO breaches
  • Victims register applications

Victims of Crime Compensation

  • Applications including increase and review applications for compensation

Child Protection

  • Advice and legal representation to parents and/or extended family about their rights in relation to children
  • Care plan meetings
  • Negotiate with Territory Families in relation to contact
  • Family placement, kinship carers and reunification

Family law/Parenting Matters (only where family violence exists)

  • Representation and advice on parents and family rights in relation to children
  • Court representation
  • Representation at mediation and referrals

CAAFLU’s Support Services

General Client Support

  • Client referrals to and support in accessing other services including medical, counselling, accommodation, financial and other relevant services
  • Crisis intervention including liaison with police, medical, accommodation and financial services
  • Safety planning
  • Arrange and prioritize the use of interpreters
  • Cultural advising/brokering
  • Housing support though assisting with priority housing applications, support letters and gathering supporting documentation

Community Legal Education

CAAFLU develops and delivers community legal education to government agencies, non-government organisations, schools and other community stakeholders.

CAAFLU contributes to relevant policy and law reform initiatives on both a state and federal level.
