We provide adults with care, protection and a safe place to sleep 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. They are referred to the shelter by the police, community patrol or community services after being found intoxicated in public spaces. For many clients, the Sobering Up Shelters provide an alternative for incarceration and pathways to engage in AOD and other health services to help reduce the harm for AOD misuse.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • 18 years of age or over
  • referred to the service by Police, Community Patrol Organisations, other referring agencies, responsible community member or self referral
  • intoxicated through drinking alcohol or through inhaling volatile substances
  • conscious and not seriously injured
  • not unmanageably aggressive or abusive.
