The Suicide Prevention Program develops, promotes and delivers suicide prevention activities and builds community awareness and capacity to respond to suicide and other related issues. The program aims to improve outcomes for people at risk of suicide across Katherine, Mataranka, Binjari, Lajamanu, Barunga, Beswick, Manyallaluk, Minerri, Kalarindji, and Jilkminggan.

BBSSGNT is a suicide bereavement support group for persons over the age of 18 years who have been impacted by suicide loss of a family member, friend or work colleague.  Postvention support (support after suicide) is Prevention. For every incident of suicide, research indicates that at least 135 persons are affected by each incident. This equates to approx half a million people nationally in Australia alone.  The BBSSGNT is an initiative by SabrinasReach4Life based in Darwin. Currently this service is run by volunteers and auspiced by Anglicare NT.

Meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of every month between 7pm to 9pm @ Harry’s Place, 1 Willeroo Street in TIWI.

SabrinasReach4Life (SR4L)objectives is to be a voice for those with a lived experience of suicide loss and complex grief, and advocate for improvements in the NT suicide prevention, intervention and postvention support.  The Committee networks extensively with not only local stakeholders who have a role in this sector, but also with interstate and international experts in suicide loss and grief. SR4L (previously known as SabrinasRide4Life) was established by Lidia and Michael Di Lembo following the loss of their daughter Sabrina, to suicide.

The focus of SR4L is currently the establishment of the Bereaved By Suicide Support Group NT  which meets monthly on the first Wednesday of every month between 7 to 9pm at Harry’s Place, TIWI

KRAHRS brings together Aboriginal organisations involved in the delivery of health and related services in the Katherine region in order to enable service providers and advocates to share information, support each other and coordinate activities for the benefit of the indigenous people of the region.

MHACA is a not for profit specialist mental health service providing psycho-social support services and educational programs aimed at enhancing the mental health and well-being of people living in Central Australia.

We offer a range of services which aim to facilitate wellness for a diverse range of individuals living with mental illness or going through mental distress.

MHACA provides psychosocial support services, NDIS support coordination and services, individual and group-based supports, educational and training programs and a Drop-in centre.

MHACA can help people with a diagnosed mental illness with:

  • Building daily living skills
  • Increasing physical health and wellbeing
  • Being confident in the community
  • Managing mental health conditions

Under the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Relationships Australia NT can provide services to contracted organisations or departments to provide counselling as well as assisting in the resolution of workplace disputes. We work with a number of organisations, including the NT Government to provide counselling services free to their employees. Counselling is available for a range of issues, both personal and work-related. Trained staff are available to facilitate workplace mediations and/or offer conflict coaching services to help people move beyond dispute. Relationships Australia NT provides a diverse range of counselling services, responding to the needs of individuals, couples and families from all cultural backgrounds. Counselling is available on a wide range of issues including relationship development/improvement, relationship difficulties, sexual concerns, family violence, grief and loss, and individual growth.

Wurli Community Services

Wurli provides a range of community services to Aboriginal people living in Katherine and 40 km radius.

Clients can ‘walk in’ at any time during operating hours, but if clients prefer, the clinic also operates an appointment system for current clients.

Access to all clinical services is improved by our transport service, which can collect clients from anywhere within 40 kilometres of Katherine. Wurli will send out reminder letters and messages to you and family when due for an appointment or other type of follow up care.

Wellbeing Unit

The Wellbeing unit is located at 25 Third Street (above Wurli main clinic) and starts from a position of cultural sensitivity and respect to deliver individualised, holistic intervention, treatment and management services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People of the Katherine Region.

The unit also delivers community engagement and development activities that promote living socially and emotionally healthy lifestyle.

StrongBala Justice Support Program

The StrongBala Justice Program aims to give Indigenous men regular access to culturally appropriate holistic health, justice and alcohol and other drugs (AOD) services as well as providing educational sessions through a Personal Development Program (PDP).  Referrals to internal and external health providers and other agencies are provided as required.

Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Program

Wurli’s Alcohol & Other Drugs service provides a holistic and culturally competent drug and alcohol counselling service for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of the Katherine region.

AOD services are provided to assist in the reduction of the harmful impacts that Alcohol and other Drug misuse/ abuse has on other individuals and family safety, community well-being, as well as contributing towards the health outcomes for individual clients.

Strong Indigenous Families (SIF)

Wurli’s Strong Indigenous Families (SIF) Program aims to address the behaviours that lead to family and domestic violence to improve the safety of women and their children.

Through the delivery of therapeutic services for children and case management services for the family, SIF works towards breaking the inter-generational cycle of family and domestic violence and the removal of children from families.

Katherine Individual Support Program (KISP)

The Katherine Individual Support Program (KISP) delivers case management and outreach services to people living rough in the Katherine community living areas and town camps.

The Program aims to improve health outcomes and increase the quality of life experienced by KISP clients. This program operates via an outreach model.

Community Education

Provides community education and outreach about suicide prevention, awareness and assistance for all communities across the Northern Territory, including remote and isolated communities.

 

Lifeline Telephone Crisis Support

A twenty-four-hour telephone crisis support, information and referral service available nationally that provides an immediate and confidential opportunity to discuss a problem or concern.

The service responds to callers of all ages with a wide range of concerns and emergencies including matters involving relationships, domestic violence, family issues, youth issues, child abuse, anxiety, depression, postnatal depression, loneliness, unemployment, grief, problems at work or school, homelessness, money worries, drug & alcohol problems and suicide. A particular focus is suicide prevention and mental health.

 

Training Services

Workshops such as Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), safeTALK and The Accidental Counsellor.The courses run over two days or for half a day and are relevant for community members, mental health workers, housing workers, medical practitioners, teachers & school support staff, counsellors, youth workers, domestic violence support workers, drug & alcohol workers, police & corrections staff and clergy.

Adult Support

Individual support for Adults

TeamHEALTH have a variety of support available for adults who have a mental illness or are experiencing distress in relation to their mental health.

We provide mental health supports for adults 16-64 years old who are experiencing mental health issues, with or without a diagnosis. Referrals are accepted from any source including self-referral.

Location of Support: We provide supports to people living in Darwin – urban and rural regions, Palmerston, Katherine, Daly River and Maningrida.

Centre Based Support

Adults over 16 who are experiencing mental health issues, with or without a formal diagnosis, can access the Centre Based Supports service. Referrals are accepted from any source including self-referral.

If you are feeling isolated or alone, our Centre Based Supports team provide a welcoming place where you can socialise and participate in a range of activities.

Location of Support: The Centre Based Supports office is located at Rapid Creek Business Village, 48 Trower Road, Millner NT 0810

Monday to Friday from 9.30am – 3.00pm

Support for Older Adults

To be eligible for support by the Older Adult team you need to be assessed and found eligible for a Home Care Package (HCP) or have an NDIS package that includes these supports. Non-indigenous adults are required to be 65 and over and Indigenous adults are required to be 50 years.

We support older adults experiencing mental illness who need assistance to remain living in their own home.

Location of Support: Support is available in urban Darwin regions.

Support Coordination for individuals with an NDIS package

Support Coordination is an NDIS item, whereby you receive individual support to help manage your NDIS package. TeamHEALTH have a team of experienced support coordinators who can assist you in getting the most out of your NDIS package.

Child and Family Support

Our Child and Family Wellbeing team work with children who are aged 0-18 years, together with another member of their family or significant adult, such as a parent or carer. We work alongside children and families who are affected by, or at risk of developing a mental illness.

We offer support at our office locations, Palmerston –Litchfield, Katherine, Gunbalanya, and can visit children and families in their homes, or somewhere else suitable to families in the community, such as a play centre.

Housing Support

We provide non-crisis, accommodation options for you and your family, if you are over 18 years and living with mental illness or mental health concerns and can live independently in the community with support. To be eligible to receive housing support individuals need to be engaged with an individual support worker through TeamHEALTH or another approved provider.

Medium to long-term, shared and non-shared housing options are available in a range of units and houses throughout Darwin and Palmerston. All accommodation comes partly furnished including white goods.

TeamHEALTH Housing is located throughout Darwin and Palmerston.

Residential Support

Through the NDIS we provide Supported Independent Living (SIL) by assisting participants in a shared home environment. This program assists participants build their skills around budgeting, household management and social skills. Our individualised supports each participant in their own journey to good mental health to people living with mental health issues or a significant and permanent disability.

Education and Training

At TeamHEALTH we are committed to delivering education and training to reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness and contribute to better mental health outcomes.

We provide up-to-date training for workplaces, schools and individuals in the community delivered by our trained facilitators.

Education and training are available in Darwin, Palmerston and Katherine.

  • reducing the high rates of suicide through the delivery of a critical response service to support individuals and families affected by a suicide or other traumatic incidents
  • providing social support, practical assistance and advocacy support to affected individuals and families
  • building the capacity of local communities and service providers to care for and respond to social disadvantage, including suicides and traumatic incidents in their community
  • strengthening individual, family and community resilience and social wellbeing, and
  • contribute to addressing the social disadvantage needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities

CatholicCare NT ATAPS Triage Service liaise with GPs and referral sources to review client eligibility and allocate referrals to ATAPS providers. ATAPS Triage Service can be contacted Monday to Friday during business hours.
