Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation (LNAC) is a large, progressive and professional Aboriginal organisation with a dual purpose: It is the representative organisation for the Larrakia people, the traditional owners of Darwin and is also a major service provider for Aboriginal people in the region.

LNAC is a dynamic, membership-based organisation, and a major Aboriginal service delivery and business development organisation in the areas of:

  • community services
  • homelessness support
  • land and sea monitoring
  • management and arts, culture and knowledge.
Aged & Disability Support Services

Larrakia Nation Aged Care Service is an approved provider of Aged Care Services for the Commonwealth Department of Health.  Our primary focus is to assist our clients in living stronger, living longer. We do this by focusing on working with individuals and their strengths, capacity and goals to enable them to remain living independently and safely in their home.

Tenancy Support

Provides life-skills training for tenants in areas such as budgeting, money & debt management, renters’ rights & responsibilities and household safety to enable them to retain tenancies and maintain healthy places to live.

Return to Country (RTC)

Provides information, referral, proof of identification documents, and return-to-country flights for indigenous people returning to their communities.

The office also finds short-term accommodation for indigenous people who are living in or visiting Darwin.

Health Engagement & Assistance in the Long Grass (HEAL) Program

Provides practical support for homeless and houseless indigenous people in order to improve their health and wellbeing. Programs include Grass Buddies and Arts in the Grass.

Larrakia Assist & Night Patrol

Our Night Patrol service runs three vehicles, seven nights a week, looking after Aboriginal people in Darwin and Palmerston. We provide early intervention to remove people from danger and keep them safe. We resolve disputes using culture and mediation.

Larrakia Outreach & Transport Service

An outreach intervention, prevention and transport service for indigenous people who are homeless, itinerant or living in the long grass. Transport is provided to enable people to attend medical appointments, Centrelink offices, other welfare services and the airstrip for return-to-country flights.

Youth Patrol

Our Youth Patrol is a new initiative funded in Night Patrol. Operating a bus with the same times and contact number as Night Patrol, we take young people home so they get to bed to be ready for school the next day. We work closely with local youth centres to deliver this service and we encourage any young people needing transport home at night to call us on 1800 101 645

Larrakia Rangers

Provide conservation and land management services including erosion control, feral animal & weed control, board walk construction, turtle rescue, fencing, marine surveys and water quality testing.

FINANCIAL COUNSELLING, CAPABILITY & RESILIENCE HUB

The Hub assists people in financial difficulty to address their financial problems.  Financial Counsellors and Financial Capability Workers assist clients one on one and in workshops helping them to know how to manage their money, develop saving plans and budgeting. This service covers Central Australia region and includes 33 remote communities and Alice Springs.

  • Financial Counsellors

Counsellors support clients with personal financial difficulties, undertake in depth assessments of a client’s financial situation and work with them to increase their capability to make informed decisions in resolving personal financial difficulties.  Advice includes debt management, negotiating with creditors, budgeting, bankruptcy, credit laws and eligibility for government assistance.  Make an appointment for a free professional and confidential chat.

  • Financial Capability Workers

Financial Capability Workers provide one on one and group sessions to assist clients with basic financial literacy, education and support as well as delivering community education sessions.

EMERGENCY RELIEF

Emergency relief is for people who are in a crisis situation and dependant on need can include food, food vouchers, blankets, clothing and where needed referrals to other support. This service is available every morning of the week Monday to Friday 9am to 12 noon.

 KWATJA ETATHA PLAYGROUP

Kwatja Etatha (Arrente for Living Waters) Playgroup runs intensively supported ‘play sessions’ where families are encouraged to interact with their children through structured play activities.  Playgroup sessions run during school terms on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am to 11.30 am.  Transport to and from Playgroup is provided.

FAMILIES LEARNING TOGETHER

Supported by Anglicare ‘Families Learning Together’ offers interactive workshops for parents including Circle of Security and learning experiences for families and parents on Babies and Toddlers Development, Caring for Young Children and Babies, Hygiene and Safety

INTENSIVE FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICE (IFSS)

This programme at Ntaria (Hermannsburg) aims to reduce child neglect through building on family strengths and supporting families to build their capacity to meet the needs of their children.  Families requiring support are referred from other agencies.

Somerville Community Services is a non-government, not-for-profit youth, family and community welfare organisation. Somerville prioritises and advocates for access to resources that will help disadvantaged Territorians to improve their circumstances and provide essential services to the community.  The Somerville No Interest Loans Scheme provides people on low incomes with flexible and affordable credit for the purchase of essential household items.  This service is currently available in Darwin, Palmerston and Katherine.

Somerville prioritises and advocates for access to resources that will help disadvantaged Territorians to improve their circumstances and provide essential services to the community.  Somerville manages a number of emergency relief programs to help people deal with their immediate crisis situation in a way that maintains the dignity of the individual and encourages self reliance.

Somerville Community Services is a non-government, not-for-profit youth, family and community welfare organisation. Somerville prioritises and advocates for access to resources that will help disadvantaged Territorians to improve their circumstances and provide essential services to the community.  Somerville provides a Tax Help Service from our Palmerston Office, our Wagaman Office and our Katherine Office.

Somerville Community Services is a non-government, not-for-profit youth, family and community welfare organisation. Somerville prioritises and advocates for access to resources that will help disadvantaged Territorians to improve their circumstances and provide essential services to the community.  The National Debt Helpline provides free financial counselling.  Financial Counsellors are available to assist with a wide range of finance related issues including money management, general debt and bankruptcy.  Financial Counsellors are located in our Darwin, Palmerston and Katherine offices and also are able to assist people in remote areas through telephone counselling.
